Type in the Round

Since Type in the Round deals with type on multiple surfaces, Amanda and I have decided to use amagic cube as one form of advertisement. It will be a useful tool to carry multiple messages using only one object.

We will need to invite people to the conference, but we would like to send an invitation that they will not throw away. We plan on making a dvd/cd that includes an invitation, a printable schedule, desktop backgrounds (as reminders), etc. We may include a make-your-own name tag on the disk. This disk will be poetic, persuasive AND practical.

The guests will be encouraged to interact with people of other professions. It may be hard to tell without giving everyone labels saying which profession they are. We will have to create buttons, wristbands, and/or some other wearable devices to label each guest with a specific color. These will be poetic and practical.

The guests are going to be confused about where to go unless we have directional signage, which will be practical and poetic (they'll decorate boring spaces well). We will have to create signs telling the guests where to go. They may also use a practical map to help them get around.

In order to persuade people who may have not received our mailers to come to Type in the Round, we will design some posters and billboards, as well as a web site with all of the information. The billboards will be persuasive and poetic. The posters will be poetic. The web site will be practical, poetic AND persuasive.

Amanda and I were also planning to create a quick, looping animation or slideshow to project on some boring-looking walls. These shows will be used practically and poetically to give the audience a quick view of all the experiments that will be included in the conference.
