Web 2.0:

Web 2.0 (or Web 2) is the popular term for advanced Internet technology and applications including blogs, wikis, RSS and social bookmarking. The two major components of Web 2.0 are the technological advances enabled by Ajax and other new applications such as RSS and Eclipse and the user empowerment that they support.

No scheduled software releases, just continuous improvement. No licensing or sale, just usage. No porting to different platforms so that customers can run the software on their own equipment, just a massively scalable collection of commodity PCs running open source operating systems plus homegrown applications and utilities that no one outside the company ever gets to see.
Google's fellows are other internet applications like eBay, Amazon, Napster, and yes, DoubleClick and Akamai.
Web 2.0 principle: the service automatically gets better the more people use it.

1.0 - 2.0 = 2.0 is browser-based. tags are created by the user...
main reason why google is dominant--began life as a web application..

negative effects of bloggers- power of bloggers (they're in a linking community and the network they belong to develop loud voices.)

2.0 allows room to grow. (create an environment that users would want to go back to)

-services above package software
-they get better as more ppl use them
-web as a platform
--long tail....
-web is about you!!!!!
