use italic or bold for emphasis. when you have those options it's unnecessary to underline, which bumps into descenders, often clutters, and is distracting.
other ways of changing parameters to add emphasis include larger type or a change of face. amazing. or if you must add lines, do it thoughtfully, and thusly.
